Right now I’m writing to you from Sedona, AZ, on a much needed vacation. It’s the first time I’ve been here and it definitely won’t be the last. The warm sun, red rock formations, pleasant health and environmentally-conscious locals, and energy vortices are what appeal to me most.

I took a jeep tour into the red rock canyons that was quite nice. It’s completely different to actually be standing amidst the rocks rather than simply gazing from afar. I also took a nice hike to Boynton Canyon where one of the four main vortices are located. According to lovesedona.com, “a vortex is the funnel shape created by a whirling fluid or by the motion of spiraling energy”. The vortex at Boynton Canyon is considered both feminine and masculine. According to a local I spoke with, a feminine vortex is good for releasing “negative” thought patterns, emotions, and habits; while a masculine vortex is thought to allow one to manifest more “positive” aspects of those things.

After visiting Boynton Canyon, I could definitely notice a difference in the way I felt and thought. Euphoric, and perhaps endorphin-releasing are the best terms I can use to describe how I felt during and after the experience. The effects lasted throughout the day.

In thinking about this energy, I reverted to my understanding of the electromagnetic spectrum. Essentially, the electromagnetic spectrum is made up of a range of different frequencies of electromagnetic radiation. Some types of electromagnetic radiation you are familiar with are radio waves, microwaves, ultraviolet rays, x-rays, etc.. And of course, visible light, or what our eyes can perceive. This visible light only represents a very, very small fraction of the spectrum. In essence, there is so much more energy around us than what we can see; although we use it everyday with things such as cell phones, etc.. This site from NASA has a good visual and written description of the spectrum.

Here is a site with some great pictures of Sedona if you haven’t seen any. See you soon.
